This course explores inclusive tactile media design, emphasizing touch as an important mode of information communication and experience design. Students will learn to develop tactile and multimodal syntax, that result in semantically rich content, prototypes, products, and enhanced interactions and experiences. Working with domain experts, practitioners, and educators who are BLV or DB or their allies to develop new cultural competencies, design skills and techniques that address barriers to BLV individuals' inclusion in design education. Through hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and reflective practices, mixed-ability teams will gain practical experience in designing for diverse and contextual user needs, while carving new paths for the advancement of tactile media studies.  - Dr. Abigale Stangl
